Who does not love Canada Day? The long weekend, the hot weather, and the chance to feel patriotic are the perfect elements for those who love a celebration. This year’s Canada Day party was extra special—it is Canada’s 153rd birthday! Oh, Canada, you do not look a day over a 100.
Canadians coast to coast celebrated Canada Day together, whether it was at an event at a city park, or at home and in their neighborhoods. After two years absence Canada Day 2022 Celebration in The Sierra Leonean Community in Winnipeg was a hit (Music all day long). Several members of the community attended the celebration dressed in red and white.
Organized by The Sierra Leone Nationals Association of Manitoba (SALNAM) Canada Day returned with many all-new activities. This year’s festivities included a series of activities in Kildonan Park. Tug of war between men and women; Sack Race senior and junior boys and girls; Musical chair senior and junior boys and girls; Community Barbeques; and a lot of other family fun activities.
Despite the hot weather, attendance was extraordinarily strong, and it was wonderful to see the return of large public events. Many thanks to the SALNAM executive members and all the other volunteers who contributed to making Canada Day 2022 in the Sierra Leonean community here in Winnipeg such a success.
