NEWS RELEASE

The Sierra Leone Nationals Association of Manitoba (SALNAM) wishes to formerly inform all community members and friends that a Committee has been formed to plan various activities associated with fundraising for the flooding and mudslide that took place in Freetown, Sierra Leone on August 14, 2017.

The Committee was formed at an Emergency General Meeting held at SALNAM Resource Centre on Saturday, August 19, 2017, and is responsible for creating awareness in Manitoba, about the human tragedy caused by the flood which has resulted in the loss of many lives and properties. The Committee is responsible for organizing and planning all fundraising activities in Manitoba.  

SALNAM MUD SLIDESMembers of the Committee include: Simeon Ganda (Chairperson), Nancy Sam Hunter (vice chair), Pastor David Kamara, Wendy Trudel (Committee secretary), Eriqueson Tayo-Jones, Alfred Koineh, Allieu Sesay, Gibril Koroma, Isha Koroma, Brian Cleveland, Ken-Abu Kamara, Francess Fosonah, and Abu Bakarr Kamara.

The Committee is currently asking for donations from community members and the general public, to assist in the recovery effort underway in Sierra Leone. Monetary donations can be made at any Assiniboine Credit Union in Manitoba, Canada, to account number: 110014783002. The account name is ‘Donations for Freetown’. You can also make your financial and material donations to the following officials: Simeon Ganda (Committee chair) at (204) 951-4250, SALNAM Financial Secretary, Ken Abu Kamara at (204) 299-5489 or P.R.O, Eriqueson Tayo-Jones at (204) 782-7335. If donating by cheque, please make it payable to Sierra Leone Nationals Association of Manitoba (SALNAM) Inc.

The names of all those who donate will be published on www.salnam.ca. Please visit this site periodically to see if your name is among the names of our generous donors. On that note, SALNAM wishes to thank all those who have made their donations to this worthy cause. 

Be informed also that there will be a Night of Prayer (a vigil) for Sierra Leone at Knox Church (Central Park, Downtown Winnipeg) on Friday, September 1, 2017, starting at 7pm sharp, and ending at 8:15 pm. You are all invited and please be there on time. For information about this prayer service, please contact Pastor David Kamara at (204) 558-9281 or the Committee chair, Mr. Simeon Ganda at (204) 951-4250.

Also, there will be a fundraising Car Wash on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Domo Gas Station located at 1441 Henderson Highway. It starts at 8:30 am and ends at 4:30pm. Please come and get your car washed and cleaned for $10 only (per car). Donations will be accepted also.
